HOW TO CREATE YOUR OWN BOTM FROM YOUR BOOKSHELF
I've been following BOTM for a while and although I don't order or buy the books they picked before, I can say I love each month's choices. Last year, I was able to read First Lies Wins through NetGalley. It was so good that I gave it a solid 5 stars on Goodreads. That specific book made me want to go back to reading a physical copy. And here I am now. Gathering slowly. As of this writing, I have 11 physical copies and already read two (The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which I was able to finish but gave 1 star, and The Family Upstairs which is 5 stars for me.).
As I mentioned here, I always get disappointed when a book becomes everyone's favorite but the botm list is an exemption. This month, I decided to put together my April to read based on their list. It was an easy task for me because my books are already categorized into 8 (Arts & Crafts, Christmas, Classic, Cookbook, Fiction, Non-Fiction, Romance, and Thriller) and the app I'm using can be found here.
What I did was, I first read the book synopsis, and then I identified keywords that I will use to match with my available books. Instead of going over the entire book collection, I decided to just stick to the books that were in front of me. I don't want to spend a lot of time choosing several titles and then be stuck deciding which book will I pick. I'm choosing my battle here wisely.
- For The Sun Was Electric Light by Rachel Morton, I picked Sunny Days and Sea Breezes by Carole Matthews
- For The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits by Jennifer Weiner, I picked One Night Only by Sue Welfare
- For Every Sweet Thing Is Bitter by Samantha Crewson, I picked The Sun in Her Eyes by Paige Toon
- For Passion Project by London Sperry, I picked Take a Chance on Me by Beth Moran
- For Six Days in Bombay by Alka Joshi, I picked The Woman Who Lied by Claire Douglas
I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that I will be able to read these all this month. 😊
