MANAGING MY EMAILS

One of my favorite communication tools is email (specifically Gmail) and we have a love-hate relationship until yesterday. I got tired of crossing out the Daily Inbox Clean in my to-do list. So tired of it. My labels have also been all over the place since last year. I want to be more productive this year. I need to face the dreaded truth: 58, 515, or 5.41GB of emails in my inbox and I need to clean that or I will go insane just thinking about it.

So sorry there is no before screenshot of my inbox, but here are my labels.

  • Freebies-this is self-explanatory
  • Home Management-anything that has to do with home like recipes, money; budget, home design (tiny house), etc.
  • Online Member-newsletter or updates from a website I subscribe to like Facebook, Instagram, etc.
  • Online Work-I have several things I do that I offer online but nothing is set in stone. I constantly evolve as an artist and I offer products or services based on client needs.
  • Shopping-this is also self-explanatory.
  • Subscriptions-wholesale suppliers of my physical products and website that I need to subscribe to because of work.
  • To Read-this is where the fun stuff is. any email under this category is read after all the emails above.

Of course, I didn't stop with the labels. I'm also tired of manually transferring the emails to their designated category. Wasted so much time doing this for years and need to do something about it. So, I asked hubby if an email could go automatically to their labels. He said "You need to create rules" and I was "What?" He demonstrates how he creates rules so emails will automatically organize themselves. I am blown away with that simple trick. It was amazing discovering things for the first time. I need to try that immediately. The moment I added the filter for incoming and old emails I was literally over the moon. So happy to be finally free from this tedious task.

I also started deleting emails from the archive. Instead of keeping them there and ending up eating up my storage space, I let go of them and felt better after. :)

I woke up today, feeling better knowing that when I open my inbox, emails will be ready for me to read.
